Venezuela really has a rich anti-imperiaiist history and exquisite culture. Like Haiti, Ethiopia, Cuba this is why they hate it so. Such a handsome reception room in which Lavrov was welcomed in Caracas. (See Daily Chronicles) A dignified people I hope to visit someday.

Lavrov’s visit to Venezuela so soon after Patrushev is important. Iran was in Caracas to deepen ties too. They were a lifeline once western oil engineers & tech left, hamstringing their critical sector. Relations were strong since Chavez & Ahmadinejad. Connections being made every day to bring in LAC into what Pepe rightly calls the global BRI, now steadily roping in Latin America and the Caribbean. And Lavrov’s visit to Lula appears quite successful, going by Washington hysteria.

Venezuela is one of the wealthiest, most beautiful and historically important lands on earth. One of the first to throw out European hegemony in the world, in first decades of 19th century. Like Iranians an indomitable people for whom resistance comes second nature. If Bolivar’s original construct of Gran Colombia had endured, it would be a top five world power today, having the size, resources, culture, farmland, location, Panama canal and bioceanic transit..

Gabriel Garcia Marquez lived in both major fragments of Gran Columbia — Columbia and Venezuela. Wasn’t the pursuit of Fermina Daza for 50 years worth such a lovely prize?? regarding Smoothie’s latest interesting TOEs video, I want to consult with your knowledge on military history. Is Smoothie underestimating the purpose of Pirate war??? For a millennia, since the first Crusades, part of their function was to deliberately bleed (thin out) excess population (esp. 2nd nobles’ son and bulk nutzlosen) so bigger fish had a bigger piece of the pie. At times this appeared determinative even over plunder, or at the least coequal.

Thus they always focused to an extraordinary degree on offensive weaponry, to damage enemies for sure and to obtain a fear-factor, but also de-emphasized defensive weaponry, to ensure own losses. Lord Cardigan’s Brits leading the Charge in Crimea are the quintessential western military mindset. They spit on losing immeasurable human wealth; in fact killing both sides derives the deepest pleasure. It had to be masked as incompetence!!

Nothing has changed, as far as I can see. See how veterans are gaslit by the VA and in effect told to go and die. In fact, it is best borne out in human waves sent by the Anglos and French at machine gun nests in WW1. The Crimean War and WW1 are most instructive. They have the same mindset and attitudes to this day, seen in sending a million Ukies in the last year to certain death and disability. Like all their usual BS projection of Stalin sending human waves, the historical record shows it was westerners using such tactics. Some opponents may have done at times for defensive existential purposes. But the number of offensive missions in which the West did it is mindboggling. The eastern Orthodox slavs were shown to be more sparing and respectful of human lives, of both sides.

So keeping all this in mind, isn’t it myopic to compare two vastly different doctrines and weltanschauung?? What has catastrophically changed for west in last 30 years were, upsetting ancient calculations (not registered yet in OODA loops, or barging right ahead, damn the obstacle??):

• improvements of defensive shields by orders of magnitude, making these land/sea/air charges even more suicidal than ever – to an unmanageable degree.
• offensive stand-off weaponry which now at the least match, and often surpass theirs, making such old tactics prohibitive. You don’t just bleed a “useless portion” – you bleed out altogether!

These developments made their traditional way of war – sending the lightly-shielded (essentially suicide-bombers) at enemies – unsustainable. They are defeated every which way now, short of nukes. Even there, both sides [theoretically] lose. And there is no time to rearm & innovate under the time constraints.

So crassness, hatred and contempt of humans on both sides, willful disinvestment of defensive architecture, and in last three decades juiced by laziness and pork-barrel politics wrt offensive weaponry development (leading to loss of innovation, defunding of volume factories, etc..) became the perfect storm. Meanwhile Russia kept steadily, patiently, relentlessly developing and improving across the board.

My argument is the inability of West to keep up traces at root to this millennial heartless Pirate mindset with its bent calculation of human worth and seeking to manage numbers through turning spigots on/off… well spigots are turned all the way on and they’ve now lost the ability to control it or get off the rollercoaster short of surrender!

2. This Soylo makes Medvedev seem a teetotaler! A genuine Hysteric. He “resigned” at least two times, was denied and stayed on. He insulted Europe as many times as the French rioted since Marie Antoinette left us. It’s essentially a pastime and family social event for both. And it must be said, with utmost respect, both do it with admirable èlan given long fruitful practice.
3. Türkiye is unceremoniously elbowing France “Out of Africa” — with none of the romantic vibes of Sydney Pollack! Rather like a fat ruthless Marlon Brando rampaging in an overheated Parisian flat.. i.e. these include unemotional business aspects, Siciliano-style.
4. He’s considered one of top contenders to replace Erdogan… “Après le Sultan, le déluge!” I am not saying he’ll be the Turkish Liz Truss, but he may come close..

Nevertheless, even calculated outbursts and drama can snowball and take a life of their own. Turks are extremely tribal and will hear him. He is making encouraging noises in the current climate. Many in the Heartland are rubbing their hands in delight.

Iran has one of the most unusual lands on earth. If the land shapes a people, what does this video say about its people? All four seasons can be seen simultaneously across its breadth. Brother AHH… Much as I’d like to disagree about those addicted to heroin…yes, I think so. I knew a few from my cohort. One is still a friend, that’s to say, alive. Self-made and fairly wealthy, he still talks about about it…he’s nearly 80. I fear he’ll relapse, he spoke not long ago of “trying” the synthetic “F-Stuff”. I am less willing to agree about amphetamine, yet there too, I know of another old friend…life-long amphetamine addiction leading to mitral valve prolapse, congestive heart failure, and the ramp down that goes that way. I miss that fella, I used to hire him whenever I could, got him in the union. I have known, know, people who simply got tired of dope, and simply lost interest. They got started slowly, become compulsive for a short time or even a few years, and then gradually stopped. I know a gal like that, no at least three ladies. One is retired from the civil service, another is a retired professor…they went on to other interests…another works for a bank…quite respectable people, now. They stopped on their own, years ago….but they didn’t use heroin.

The Hamster wheel… I went off and examined a motorcycle site with respect to the character of people there. Sad to discover that most, and these people are fully adult and mostly US and UK types…are, functionally and willfully “A.S.”, as we have coined the term. They have zero interest in knowing, but abiding interest in style and appearance. Nice people, though entirely delusional and encased by life-long propaganda…helpless, and happy. Pathetic. There are implied first assumptions, such as you can exchange money for knowing and doing. Well sometimes you can, but it’s not a bargain, and it confesses helplessness. To-day they argued among one-another, a major faction loudly claiming that grammar and punctuation are unimportant, another claiming the mirror’d position. About chrome, about style. They do have some appreciation for art though…it’s what’s left, I suppose.

Piratewar… purpose  = > 1    And purpose is contradictory, as the 404 affair causes a set of reactions outside (and increasingly inside!) that contradict the specious and risible propaganda…which propaganda then becomes like satire, and then simply shameful and transparent, pathetic. And we see most of the world laughing. I do think that somebody wants as many people killed as possible, but wish to avoid being blamed…just now as many Slavic people as possible, as many nutzlossenvolk everywhere as they can…nazis and saints it doan matter to Intrepid Wisdom of Evil. The people dying in the US street are dying because the stuff has an Unofficial license”… otherwise it could not happen in such a scale. The people dying in 404 same same.

Smoothie is not a philosopher. He’s a wonderful expert. I see him as a bit of a cypher, probably a romantic with wanderlust.  Short answer. Smoothie is indeed underestimating.

Getting on time to go shut up the chickens… then read a page of Conrad as soporific. Finished “an outpost of progress”, which is very fine satire and criticism of the British Empire…we’ll see how “Karain, A Memory” measures up… I would like to precis some Conrad. Get well dear Mr P. Motion sickness is most unpleasant. I once went on a whale-sighting boat from Boston.. let’s say I learned I was a landlubber and careful kept to my lane thereafter. At least the deep seas or anything that could rock the boat! Drowsiness adverse effects of some drug store remedies are not good, esp in elderly leading to falls and danger with machinery/stairs.. But there are a range of natural remedies – ginger tea is excellent. Amarynth is better versed..

This may be a coping mechanism. Many are grieving parents.. These functions were sadly ruined in many youths since texting, chats, social media were rolled out in last decades. And educators in post-modern schools told to automatically advance kids to the next grade have to swallow it. Younger teachers are more sympathetic. Older ones often outraged.

Were they educators? Or embarrassed parents of teens/collegiate students? This digital age is an absolute catastrophe on our kids. It nukes their attention spans, dissolves their social skills, drives their atomization, and implodes their grammar and punctuation. Goodness!

I feel for the older teachers. Attention to detail counts. Their tough-love has practical benefits.. Without a prevalent correct understanding of language and its use, can proper education or respect for that education be imparted? Thereafter, will that generation grasp history (the painful lessons of those preceding them), honor their own traditions, respect their elders, protect their weak, lead meaningful lives, or avoid being serfs in a disunited feudal state? I think our fabulous educator on the old Saker site, Cosimo, said they started dismantling proper public education in USA around WW1. Imagine how powerful an engine it once was, if we still live by its momentum!

Yeah I agree about Smoothie. He appears a hopeless romantic like me. We had the same lamentable taste in 80’s sappy Eurotrash songs. I suspect the lingua franca of the New Silk Road will be Russian.

I don’t think Turkic dialects are mutually intelligible throughout the vast Turkic lands??

I retain comfort with three languages, and essentially lost as much. We really moved around in my youth. I was on four continents in four years at one point! Gravid is a medical term, drilled into me in training. The root of much of english medical terminology is Latin, made easy by derivative Romance languages. I most regret losing much of my Spanish — it was never cemented by living in Spanish majority country, so easy come easy go.. a sweet romantic language. Good to cuss in too. I was in AP Spanish in USA high school and could read Gabriel Garcia Marquez in original spanish better than a Puerto Rican in my class, lol. Even if he remained semi-literate he had the last laugh though. There’s a humane quality existing in Latin American lingo and people that doesn’t seem to exist anymore in Spain or Portugal, two arrogant post-Imperial constructs.

Incredible amount of work, so I don’t get around here too often, and I want to.  But, somewhere peace will prevail.

On the issue of sea sickness or motion sickness – Oh, I can write a book.  It’s the inner ear that loses its balance simply stated and also the difference between real and perceived motion.

Most people get away with chewing on some fresh ginger, or with those copper bracelets that put pressure on a wrist pressure point or keeping eyes on the horizon.  There is another pressure point just beyond the thin skin between the thumb and first finger, just where the flesh begins.  Most people can cope with these remedies.

Stepping away to something completely different.  In one of the informational models, we humans take in information in three modes and in those, we have a dominant, a secondary and usually a lower value for the third measure.  These three are visual, auditory and kinesthetic (senses and feelings).  (Old Model, I don’t like the new ones).  On the height of the bell curve, visual is first for most people.  Kineasthetic is second and auditory is a low third.

So, I am at the height, auditory and secondary kinesthetic.  So motion sickness for me is a question of swift and sure death if I don’t get help.  Ears and senses.  It is both auditory, the ears and the inner ear balance, and the feeling, difference of real and perceived motion.  When we first did these models in Psychology school, I was so aberrant to the rest, that I thought I was deficient, and took a bunch of art appreciation classes, took drawing classes and so on, just to up that visual scale.  Then with time, I figured out what I liked and did not worry anymore.  I also realized it was a model, and not reality and the difference between a low visual intake of information, and blindness is 100% – but I did worry in between the Psych primal screaming and beating one another with pillows real hard, for anger management.  It was a second childhood, the Psych school.

So, I cannot get on an airplane without some medication and a stiff scotch.  Driving in a car, I have to be up in the front.  Sailing? oh boy, and I am a sailor.  I die without medication.  One time we were flying back from an island to a mainland, in a old old Russian plane, you could see the rivets moving in the body of the plane.  I crawled under my seat and even the kindest attendant could not get me out of there without violence, and there would have been violence.  It is not just nausea or dizziness, I lose all control of my senses and have to crawl from one bulkhead to another, if I remember what I am crawling for.

Sailing, my husband’s sport, was a problem.  I also wanted to sail the blue waters but oh man, I would die.  So, it was drugs.  I asked around and found a Doctor that seemingly could help me .. Explained to him what the case was, he took one look at me looked very interested, and said:  Now! tell me exactly how seasick you get!  And I did.  And he said .. I am the same and there are not many of us.

You need Devil’s Breath.

The worst and most horrible drug .. called Scopolamine in decent conversation.  This thing, 3 days of it made me so high, that I could survive the first three days of a bluewater trip because I did not know where my ears where or where my knees were.  I was just simply high.  Then, I was over it for long journeys.  But only the calm spots – if there was an unhappy ocean, I got unhappy with it.  Calm seas and I remain calm and happy.

The thing is, most people get through motion sickness with a little time.  For some of us, that little time will kill us.

I get land sick in that it’s irritating – but adapt quickly to the sea… Does this land-sick on return also occur for you?

I’ve seen radio masts that were snapped, longtime ago. He said, specifically> “Everyone gets sea sick” Sailors earn their wages, but it cost ’em. I do know the feeling though…once on ferry in Rotterdam, for no apparent reason. Well now…maybe you’ve enlightened me – at the moment that the thing began I was peering through a “light” and observing the “snipes” “QMED” servicing, hand oiling, the old time open rocker diesel… > ” visual, auditory and kinesthetic”… I’d propose olfactory as well, for myself, on the ferry…. You’ve solved a mystery for me! I’ve never taken any drug for motion sickness, btw.

And you’ve got a firm grip on the management. Ain’t it nice to know one’s self…

I am minded to recall the long run-up to abolitionists in the USA…both sorts, the alcohol and the slavery. Their stridency included murder and manslaughter and arson. All the chatter about F-16 airplanes makes me wonder… The airfields for these machines have to be really clean, suckup factor kills motor, see intake cowl f16. It takes years to train, and months/years to get good with one, so they say. Whose got more flying time and whose got a better set of airplanes?
