West Asia on the Brink

In the ten days since the International Court of Justice (ICJ) — aka UN World Court — gave its preliminary ruling ordering Israel to cease and desist probable genocide and to report back measures it took within a month, we have observed shocking escalation on several fronts by the Anglo-Zionist Empire.

The three main responses have been to defund the UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees), to block Algeria’s UNSC initiative to enforce urgently needed ceasefire and humanitarian access within Gaza, and to spread intense bombing to three countries trying to stop the clear culling of the Palestinians, as well as within Gaza itself. The sum total make clear the combined West not only supports the Genocide of the Palestinians by the Zionists but will use severe aggression and risk a world war to enforce the diktat of its “Rules-based Order.”

Algeria started its two-year UNSC term on January 01, 2024. On January 31, immediately following the January 26 ICJ ruling, the UNSC met on Algeria’s initiative. Algeria prepared a resolution demanding increased humanitarian aid, enforcing the urgent guidelines of the ICJ. The next day, February 01, Algeria’s full draft resolution was presented. On February 02, the USA, via its Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, opposed the motion. A single veto by one of the five permanent UNSC members is sufficient to derail any motion. Simple common-sense diplomacy, and at this point the crucial ceasefire and rapid access of food, water, fuel, medications, and health care workers and field teams — all ready and stuck at the Egyptian border in Sinai — in order to save the expiring lives of hundreds of thousands, was coldly and summarily blocked.

The importance of the UNRWA to sustain the survival of Palestinians since their 1948 Nakba is well known. In the reality of decades-long denied statehood, and with no significant wealthy arab funding, most of the UNRWA purse was dependent on the West. It is now cut off at the worst moment, on proven spurious grounds, contemptuously, with Palestinians in Gaza literally starving and dependent on the protective cover of these UN-workers to bring in the little supplies permitted to enter. The very way the funding was cut is calculated to enrage and make clear to regional and global onlookers who wields the whip hand, and insists on the starvation siege of an entire enclave of 2.3M human beings. It is designed to enlargen war, so that the desperate Resistance is forced to try to save these now dying humans!

The spread of war to the wider region was initiated even before the ICJ ruling — the bombing of Yemen by USUK commenced the very night of the electric South African prosecution of their case. Two nights ago, late night locally on February 02, Syria and Iraq were subjected to ostentatious massive bombing, largely ineffective at the moment, but serving intent of larger moves to come, clearly aimed at Iran. Yemen was similarly targetted last night. The current objective appears to buy time for Zionism to finish culling Palestinians, 100,000 of whom within Gaza have already been either murdered, injured or still missing under the rubble. That is 4.3% of their total civilian population of 2.3M, unprecedented in recent history. The open barbarity of the combined West in its moves to support this Annihilation of Palestinians is breathtaking, undoing centuries of sanctimoniousness and pretension to ethical and humanitarian ideals and to set standards for mankind.

The zionist occupation similarly escalated its aggression against Gaza. It withdrew several divisions and brigades from the north Gaza, but redoubled its efforts on south Gaza, packed with most of the displaced 2.3M refugees. Its current bombing and invasion centers on Khan Younis and Rafah, the smallest subsector of Gaza, flush against the Egyptian border. Unbearable bloodshed is about to begin here. The Palestinians have no where else to flee to. Lucky to have a single meal a day, if available, and now being bombed into smithereens in Rafah, the last point of refuge, between barbed walls nine meters high and the Sea..

This informs the extremely explosive moment. Those who most cruelly baited the Palestinians to generate the desired wider war, specifically with Iran, are about to get it.

I found a new way to get to the latest article, instead of flickering or something else, such as a twitter link or something else included with the article. From these pages I can get the latest articles themselves: https://globalsouth.co/YYYY/MM/DD/, as in https://globalsouth.co/2024/02/04/.

AHH, that was a fine piece of writing, thank you We have to assume that Hamas knows what they are doing and why. So far they are winning, the price may seem unbearably high to us, but we have not been persecuted as they have for 100 years. They have… Read more »
