It was a massacre with words yesterday at the UNSC.  Russia was torn to shreds after Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s envoy to the UN, said that Western countries are complicit in the Belgorod attack.  That was all fine, but I heard no Westerner talking about attacking non-combatants.  This was a direct attack on civilians.  They are begging for war and can be glad that Russia calls it terrorism.  These European and US people tell lies unashamedly in front of everyone else and the cameras.

One of the targets was the Dynamo sports complex in Belgorod, where youth gymnastics classes were held at that moment. Another was a skating rink in Belgorod city center. In order to increase the number of victims of the terrorist attack, cluster munitions were used

So this was a deliberate indiscriminate combined strike against a peaceful city.

This shelling of the central part of the city has killed 18 people, including three children. 108 people have been wounded, 5 children and 12 adults are in critical condition (update as of morning December 31: 22 people killed, 109 people wounded).

☝️ All organizers and perpetrators of this and other crimes of the Kiev junta will be inevitably punished.

The UN representative, Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General in the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA) called for an end to such attacks against civilians after 21 people, including two children, were killed in the attack on Saturday.  “Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law, are unacceptable, and must end now,” Khiari said as he briefed the Security Council at an emergency meeting convened on Saturday afternoon.

Moscow hit back immediately.  In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said that Moscow’s forces had struck decision-making centers and other military targets in the city of Kharkov, not far from the border between the two countries.  It noted that a high-precision missile strike on the building formerly housing the Kharkov Palace Hotel eliminated “representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were directly involved in the planning and execution of the terrorist attack in Belgorod.”  The building also housed up to 200 foreign mercenaries who were gearing up for “terrorist raids” into Russian territory, officials added.

The comments throughout the Russian ecosystem engaged in discussing military matters are joyful and glad that Maryinka is out of the way – in Russian hands. I guess we can all rest on the issue of peace negotiations – This will be a battlefield victory unless there is a strange set of circumstances that we cannot envisage.

Expectations

This is then my expectation for the new year re SMO. A continuance of the SMO, a continued small, sure advance for Russia, testing new weapons of course, and patiently de-nazifying, de-militarizing, and getting even more into the position of consistent progress since NATO is still waiting in the wings to be dealt with. This will be against a backdrop of the Empire doing crazier and crazier things to try and maintain their disappearing dominance. The Ukrainian phase will not last too long because Europe is in the process of sending the Ukranian refugees home. I am not sure whether the crash will be spectacular or just a little whimper. That is if NATO does not quickly escape to the East which is on the cards. This is then my second prediction for the new year – a persistent attempt from the US to get deeper into the business of China and use NATO as one domino. There are a few more.

Overall we may see more color revolutions, (refer the attempted coup in Serbia during the last few days). We may also see more war in the new year. We will also see more of this – a result after long negotiations: “… a free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran was signed. Once the agreement comes into force, practically all categories of goods produced in the Union will obtain duty-free access to the extensive Iranian market with 90 million consumers.”

Lavrov has also just started his BRICS runup. “BRICS is not an organization, but an association.” Russia has saddled up – now we charge.

The U.S. has announced the expansion of its own part of the continental shelf in the Arctic, Bloomberg quotes a statement by the State Department.

“The continental shelf is a continuation of the country’s land territory under water. The United States has the right to protect and manage resources and vital habitats in accordance with international law,” the agency said.

The so-called extended continental shelf occupies an area mainly in the Arctic and the Bering Sea – in a zone of growing strategic importance, which Canada and Russia also claim. According to the publication, Washington wants to gain access to minerals for the production of electric vehicle batteries by expanding the shelf. In addition, there are oil and gas fields there.

The extended continental shelf covers an area of about 1 million square meters. km.
