International Court of Justice delivers its opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The live stream is over.  It is a very long opinion, but in general, Israel is in breach of almost everything, International Law, Humanitarian Law, its own internal Law, Geneva Conventions, and more. It is very clear and not hard to follow if you first read the overview in terms of what the opinion is based on and the questions that the court opinion set out to answer. (I would like to see the court cases flowing out of this.)

This is the 83-page opinion.

Comments will follow as soon as I’ve integrated this information. What is clear is that Trump had no right to give Jerusalem or the Golan Heights to the israelis.

A few short comments obviously written in a hurry from PressTV starting here:  https://t.me/presstv/103623

  • ICJ concludes there are no compelling reasons to decline opinion request on Israeli occupation of Palestine.
  • Top UN court: Israeli has obligations over Gaza Strip as occupying power
  • Top UN court: Israel settlement policies in breach of 4th Geneva Convention
  • ICJ: Israel’s use of natural resources in occupied Palestinian territories in violation of international law
  • ICJ: Israel’s excessive use of force against Palestinians at odds with its obligations under international law
  • ICJ: Israel’s creation of “coercive environment against Palestinians” inconsistent with international law
  • ICJ: Israel’s West Bank settlements “maintained, established in violation of international law”
  • ICJ: Israel’s policies, practices “amount to annexation of large parts of occupied Palestinian territories”
  • ICJ concludes that Israel’s continued presence in occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful
  • ICJ concludes that Israel must bring occupation to end, evacuate all settlers
  • ICJ: Israel must make reparations for damages caused by occupation

I do like the last one.

Minutes after the opinion hit, Zionist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for annexing the entire West Bank after the decision, while “National Security Minister” Itamar Ben-Gvir called the decision anti-Semitic.

I would like to hope that Russia and China have been waiting for this decision before acting. I would hope Erdogan now feels free to act. Does not Hezbollah now have legal backing for a greater push south, or the Iraqi/syrian militias into Golan? All of these, however, face the… Read more »
