Prof. Jeffrey Sachs on Going Underground: Be patient with the US. WHAT?
On this episode of Going Underground, the interviewer speaks to Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, president of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Former Special Advisor to UN Secretaries-General.

The interview summary is:
He discusses why he is never brought on mainstream media to discuss the Ukraine proxy war and the lies of the Western media, how the G7’s growing arrogance is resulting in multiple crises, in Gaza, Ukraine and Taiwan, how NATO countries’ governments and media continuously using the term ‘unprovoked invasion’ when discussing the Russia-NATO proxy war in Ukraine, how the Ukraine proxy war could have easily been avoided and the consequences of NATO expansion and adventurism, the ‘Ukraine peace conference’ in Switzerland, why nothing will change after the November 2024 US Presidential election regardless of if Biden or Trump wins, the increasing failure of US sanctions and the rise of BRICS, why he believes a two-state solution is the only solution to Israel’s occupation of Palestine, the 100 years of manipulation of the Arab world by colonial powers, the US giving the green light for Ukraine to strike inside Russia, and much more.
There is something that is worrying. Prof Sachs is fine, he says the right things, he does not make mistakes and he is well prepared, as usual, but then:
The US is going to be unstable and unpredictable after November, no matter what happens. Neither of the two lead candidates is a peace candidate they each have their different modes of behavior but neither is going to bring the kind of reasoned peaceful approach to the world that we urgently need. It is going to have to come from the rest of the world …
This answer from Prof Sachs is a result of a question that touches the prescient. The interviewer speculates on the US elections asking whether there may be any difference when it comes to Gaza specifically. Could there be changes on Ukraine? While both candidates field prominent Israeli backing for both. We will return to this point.
Prof. Sachs continues to give advice to the rest of the world which is 95.9% and the US 4.1% of the world population, he states correctly.
Be serious, be consequent, insist on truth, hang together, and don’t expect any miracles, even stability, from the United States. The US is going to be unstable and unpredictable after November, no matter what happens. Neither of the two lead candidates is a peace candidate they each have their own different modes of behavior but neither is going to bring the kind of reasoned peaceful approach to the world that we urgently need. It is going to have to come from the rest of the world that says: Look, you’re a big and powerful country but you cannot run roughshod over the world.
Prof Sachs continues: The US will bluster, they will say we’ll leave the UN, (which the occupier country Israel is now doing by saying how can they punish individual UN staff), we’ll leave this agency, we’ll leave that and we will walk out of this treaty. It may do many things but the rest of the world is a much bigger part of humanity and by acting wisely, and judiciously, operating under the UN charter, abiding by treaties.
All of this is very good and very well, but here is the part that is unbearable:
“Be patient with the US, please. Give it time to get back to normal. I think this is the best approach.”
The interviewer refers to various meetings for example BRICS meetings and then asks the prescient question: What are you supposed to do when you are threatened by people from the State Dept or some of the other US agencies, when you refuse to obey US policy, whether it be a threat to your currency, whether it be media attacks on your country .. we’ve seen that growing. During the Gaza conflict … what are they supposed to do but obey?
Prof Sachs waxes lyrical about what had happened and that the threats are not as serious as what they were some time ago. He states that the BRICS are now 36% of world output compared to 29% at the G7 currently. We are in a different age. Yes, threats can be made but he does not think that they can be decisive*. He thinks if the rest of the world is calm and cool and not divided relentlessly which is what the US tries to do (the US strategy) .. if the rest of the world shows stability if they are careful, prudent, professional in statecrafts and diplomacy – the US threats are illegal in terms of international law, they twist institutions out of shape. He says he thinks there is a real opportunity for progress even with the United States not cooperating.
He then talks in detail that the Arab nations must not be divided, goes through the declarations, and says that this is what the world wants. It wants diplomacy, it wants a systematic approach, and it does not want the United States to ‘give goodies’ to one side or another (referring to bribery and coercing countries to one way or the other).
This kind of unity, he says will prevail.
Unfortunately, Prof Sachs is very good at pointing the conversation in a different direction. So, the rest of what he says is very valid and good, yet, the question is not answered.
Lets try and answer it with a few opposing questions. How can those threats not be decisive? Did we not all just see Robert Fico shot? How many more must be killed in the Ukraine and Gaza? How many countries more must be destabilized? Venezuela is running up to their election and they have to fight just to stay on their feet. How many more insane sanctions where the ordinary people are affected in their ability to provide food for their families? How many more country leaders and staff must sit there and try and find a way out of US coercion and still be patient, not rude, and not open to bribery while fielding even threats to their families and their physical well-being, and show patience? How many insane UNSC vetos must we live through because of course, everything is peachy keen in Gaza and there is nothing much going on. They are only trying to remove Hamas. (How angry I get even writing those words sarcastically!)
Yes, we know that the US’s attempts at maintaining its hegemony are less effective. It is not because of patience, Prof Sachs. It is because they are not being given the gaps any longer. People are saying no. Countries are not inviting them if they can find a way not to. But right at the moment, we have that insane “peace/(piss according to Zelensky) conference” on, to further stoke the war fires. We still have two fairly major wars going on and countless smaller actions. Patience? Be patient with the US and give them time. That is like telling a burglar that you will patiently wait until …Until what? Does the burglar change his mind?
No Prof Sach. Patience eventually runs out, as we see with the Russians now clearly making war threats and doing snap exercises with smaller nuclear arsenals, and to a great extent in the language of China.
Be patient with the US, please. Give it time to get back to normal.
No.
It can get normal all by itself, without stopping the progress of the rest of us. Patience? What for? Let them alone to do their thing and do not allow them to destabilize in any way whatsoever. Let them all fly in Boeings. Russia is pointing weapons and China is probably very ready for that, as well. (China presented an animated video showing PLA Navy bombers destroying a US Navy aircraft carrier group with Yingzi-12 missiles. The missiles bypass the air defense and sink the carrier. https://t.me/dannyhaiphong/1432)
If that is what it takes to take our planetary home back from these bloodthirsty killing machine marauders, I trust those two countries to take the correct steps at the right times. The time for strategic patience is now over. We will now kick’em in the teeth! (Only those who need a kick! Most of us are peaceniks here).
