The Daily Chronicles are snippets of the most important news across the world for this and each day as it rolls in – as such, this thread is non-structured with the latest news on top. Kindly feel free to also use it as an open thread.

Festive greetings ahead of Year of Rabbit and Spring Festival!   It’s good to have a festive spirit somewhere, to offset the deep tones of alarm from everywhere else in our world.

Saturday, January 21 – SLOW NEWS DAY

Saturday, January 21

After the NATO meeting and the WEF meeting, is it too early to say that both those two are worthless talk shops?  We will see in the next few days, but they have no solutions and keep bellowing Tanks and Russia cannot be allowed to win.  Well, Russia has won, twice already and they’re settling in to win a 3rd time.  Big Serge, a military historian wrote a very good piece.

While the Ukrainian military exists at least partially as a continuous institution, its combat power has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times at this point through western assistance. Multiple phases – life cycles, if you will – can be identified:

    • In the opening months of the war, the extant Ukrainian army was mostly wiped out. The Russians destroyed much of Ukraine’s indigenous supplies of heavy weaponry and shattered many cadres at the core of Ukraine’s professional army.
    • In the wake of this initial shattering, Ukrainian combat strength was shored up by transferring virtually all of the Soviet vintage weaponry in the stockpiles of former Warsaw Pact countries. This transferred Soviet vehicles and ammunition, compatible with existing Ukrainian capabilities, from countries like Poland and the Czech Republic, and was mostly complete by the end of spring, 2022. In early June, for example, western sources were admitting that Soviet stockpiles were drained.
    • With Warsaw Pact stockpiles exhausted, NATO began replacing destroyed Ukrainian capabilities with western equivalents in a process that began during the summer. Of particular note were howitzers like the American M777 and the French Caesar.

Russia has essentially fought multiple iterations of the Ukrainian Army – destroying the pre-war force in the opening months, then fighting units that were refilled from Warsaw Pact stockpiles, and is now degrading a force which is largely reliant on western systems.

If you told me a month ago that Peru will be up in arms, I would have questioned it.  But seemingly the invisible and existential freedom urge that is sweeping across humankind, is well and working in Peru.   We are all Spartacus!

Thousands of Outraged Peruvians Continue to Arrive in Lima

“The Peruvian political establishment is corrupt and classist. They do not accept elections in 2023 because mining concessions expire this year and there is a lot of money at stake in commissions,” explained Fidias Roldan, a Latin American intellectual.”

President Vladimir Putin asked the Russian lawmakers on Tuesday to adopt a law that would formally end the country’s participation in 21 treaties and charters related to the Council of Europe. Moscow withdrew from the human rights body last March, saying it was captured by the US and its allies in service of Western political objectives.
Putin has formally submitted the bill on terminating the treaties to State Duma chair Vyacheslav Volodin, following the provisions of a 1995 federal law.
Among the 21 treaties that will cease to apply to Russia is the charter of the Council of Europe (CoE), the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the European Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism, the European Charter of Local Self-Government, and the European Social Charter. The CoE will also lose the immunities and privileges granted by the charter.

On the schedule for the WEF’s Davos meeting, brain-computer interfaces, AI, green technology and the next pandemic are all taking a back seat to promote and escalate the war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy and his wife get not 1, not 2, but 3 exclusive events on stage.

Thursday, January 19

Tomorrow, at NATO’s Ramstein base, the great military leaders will discuss new tactics and strategies, as well as the supply of new heavy weapons and strike systems to Ukraine. And this was right after the forum in Davos, where underdeveloped political party-goers repeated like a mantra: “To achieve peace, Russia must lose.”

And it never occurs to any of the poor to draw the following elementary conclusion from this: the loss of a nuclear power in a conventional war can provoke the outbreak of a nuclear war. The nuclear powers did not lose major conflicts on which their fate depends.

But this should be obvious to anyone. Even to a Western politician who has retained at least some trace of intelligence.

This is why we have to wait for the complete transcript.  Lavrov’s meeting this morning was 3+ hours long.  And RT picks out content that is 3- minutes long.

https://www.rt.com/russia/570078-lavrov-press-conference-recap/

This is huge.  Russia and African nations are moving towards settlements in national currencies.  They are in the preparation stage to change the ‘mechanism of cooperation while under western sanctions’.

Wednesday, January 18

While Peru is still showing on the home page, I added an update to the thread.  It looks grim in that area of the world.

https://thesakeris.global/2023/01/14/peru/

Wednesday, January 18

Mr Lavrov is presenting a major speech and answers to press.  It is still live and I could pick it up here:  https://mid.ru/en/press_service/video/

At this very moment, he is commenting on Latin America, Monroe Doctrine and roots and support in LatAm and Russia will continue support for the region – he is naming the countries one by one.  They are interested that the region continues to strengthen Caribbean and Latin American unity.  He mentions CELAC, which is developing into the major collective organization and would probably be the one to connect with the multipolar organizations.  Lavrov asks CELAC to review the mechanisms for interaction with BRICS.  He mentions Mercosur, Alba, and other Latin American communities.  He says he also appreciates that not one of the Latin American countries (excepting the Bahamas) joined sanctions.  But there is much more and let’s wait for the transcript.

I’ll post it as soon as these transcripts are available.  Together with Mr Putin’s Television appearance earlier, mainly on Russian economics, there is no hysteria but an underlying unmovable resolve to continue in the way that Russia has chosen.

Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers confirms deaths of Ukrainian Internal Affairs Minister Monastyrsky and his aides in (https://t.me/IntelRepublic/12194) helicopter crash in Kiev region.  Already there is a buzz around this.  Friendly fire?

Gonzalo Lira is back on Twitter and his comment is:  BREAKING NEWS — Ukraine’s Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky and his deputy were killed in a helicopter crash near a kindergarten in Brovary, Kyiv region. The day after Arestovich resigns? I don’t believe in coincidences — something’s up.

Note that this cannot be confirmed, but something is up.  From Slavyangrad channel:  https://t.me/Slavyangrad/29471

Hacker DPR Joker’s opinion on the helicopter crash in Kiev :

I will tell you all, my loyal followers, what happened today in Brovary. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine had long been aware that the leadership of the Ministry of Defense was trading Western arms, which came to Ukraine in the form of aid, for the benefit of third countries, and that this process was overseen directly by the head of the GUR, Budanov. By the way, this information has already surfaced somewhere. The leadership of the Interior Ministry wanted their share and began collecting data through their structural units, which are associated with intelligence and surveillance. As a result, they managed to obtain evidence and began blackmailing. The military bosses promised a share to the police leadership, and the first tranche was paid. But it was pointless and unprofitable to pay any further. In addition, the insolence of the minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who had his head in the wrong place, was putting the military leadership under strain. And now the day had come when the kids from the GUR were able to demonstrate their skills. But that is not all. The sanction for this was given personally by Yermak, who is also in on the secret from the supreme narcissistic clown, Zelensky.

I so like Nathan Rich.

Tuesday, January 17

It is fairly quiet out in the world, at least as far as critical issues are concerned.   Pepe Escobar is doing regular and in-depth reports on Davos and I’ll add those to this thread.

Quick summary:  These words are gone:  no more “Great Reset”.  (How many times did I tell people that this Great Reset from these quarters is impossible – and they did not like me for telling that!  Well folks its gone under this name.)

These words are in:  “tangible solutions” and The New System.  There is a sleight of hand going on.  A short will be up quickly to highlight this new trick as soon as I can get my brain to think in English.  They are even stealing multipolar mantras.

Spent yesterday studying New Zealand’s constitution system out of curiosity. Col, you’re in a tough spot as you know. From my reading, I don’t think reform using the current structure is possible and if it is, the reforms are only as good as the next election. The check/balance system simply… Read more »

Absolutely North East… as you would have seen NZ’s “constitution” is not even written or formalised – it is in reality little more than a vague collection of disconnected conventions etc. It has often been described as resembling duck’s guts. Yes, her resignation did raise my eyebrow a little. If nothing else, it appears her self-protection drive is in working order. And perhaps a sliver of conscience somehow managed to survive the vetting process? Wishful thinking, I know. The notice was very sudden and unexpected to her supporters – two… Read more »
